Henry's Coffee House

I have taken on a new client a few weeks ago to add depth to my project. My previous clients have had family problems and have had to close shop while dealing with things. Henry's Coffee House have requested my help advertising and I have been doing some work for them alongside my Honours project using many of the same techniques. The core values and clientele are very similar for both companies.

I'm back!

Due to mental health issues I have been away for quite a while. Now that I'm on the mend I realised some things I had forgotten.

1. Guerrilla Marketing is supposed to be fun, I haven't been having fun.
I put this down to pushing myself in the wrong direction. Because of this I will be rethinking a lot of my project very quickly. My research over the past few weeks should justify my changes of direction but I will be working very fast and will be trying very hard to keep a creative and innovative edge to my work.

2. Guerrilla Marketing should appear impulsive and borderline invasive on public space.
The impulsiveness of my project had been put at somewhat of a stand still due to digital ties so adjusting the nature of the digital aspect of my project will help me drive my project forward in a more organic fashion which should help speed of setup.

3. Guerrilla Marketing should engage people in an individual way.
Research has shown that something new and basic makes more of an impact than something done often and with great detail. This is what I will be focusing the remainder of my time on rather than getting bogged down trying to learn even more digital bumph I'll never use.

storyboards

I made a couple of short storyboards for projection animation ideas.

The animations would be projected onto an origami model, most likely the frog as it has the largest flat surface area.

3D projection

So I have FINALLY got my hands on a projector and have started doing a little bit of 3D projection. I've never done any projection work before so it's a drastic learning curve for me but I think first try has gone pretty well. Working purely with static images to start with, mostly to get used to selecting and separating planes.

some research with impact

Test have shown getting information from holding an object like a book rather than a laptop or kindle which create less physical impact on the body could effect the amount of information a person retains from a source.

Tests with clipboards of different weights and books in comparison to kindles were used and showed that learning from a weightier source can effect retention and even the level of thought put into the answer of a question.

Guerrilla marketing projections

12 must see 3d projection mapping for advertising

I have managed to find a blog of 12 top guerrilla marketing schemes. Some, in my opinion, are more effective than others. Digital Wallpaper and Envision are my favorite and seem to be the most closely related to my project plans

N

The next big media test I have planned is to create a fairly large YVONNE'S out of large card and project animations onto it in the street. I am mapping the letters in an attempt to figure out the sturdiest way to make the letters. I started with N as it's not the most or least complicated letter.

Projections

I have found a variety of sculptures created purely for 3D projection mapping. These are largely different to mine as they are built up with very basic geometric shapes but the concept is very similar to what I aim to do with my origami structures.

These are primarily an attempt to attract people to the memory tests I plan on doing but i really liked them and I feel they are valuable to my project. I've had 2 replies so far but they take a while longer to connect to people than some of the larger pieces seem to. For these to be used as advertising they would probably have to be used along with extra instruction.

lilies

These would be projected onto, this was a test to see how the paper would settle on the water. they drifted for half an hour and still held their shape and drew a fair bit of attention from passers by. They weren't as effective as the paper necklace as there were less locations they could be displayed in and they were in a lower footfall area.

Necklace

Some areas proved to be more effective than others so I'm in the process of marking off a map. prime locations seem to be on already existing structures near walkways.

Exposition plan

The integration of the surrounding area and the final artifact will be important for displaying my work as it would usually be displayed in a manner that interacted with the surrounding area outdoors in order to make it more interesting. This is why I have decided to paint the backdrop for my work rather than leave it as a blank surface.
